Laser Treatment
Diode laser treatment provides several benefits for orthodontic patients. By using a specialized diode laser, our orthodontist can safely and effectively remove excess gum tissue, exposing more of the tooth’s surface. Your gum tissue serves as a “frame” for your teeth; orthodontic lasers are used to sculpt the gums around the teeth in a way that helps improve the overall appearance and function of your smile. The best part of laser treatment? In most cases, there is no need for needles! Our team simply applies a topical anesthetic to the gum tissue that is being treated, so all you feel is the slight movement of the laser tip.
Ideal Bracket Placement
If your gums have not receded properly, or if a tooth is erupting more slowly than expected, a laser can be used to remove excess tissue and reveal enough tooth surface to place a bracket.
Impacted Teeth
Impactions refer to teeth that have not properly erupted through the gums. By using laser treatment, Dr. Brent Rickheim and Dr. Brendan Smith can assist a tooth’s eruption without the need to wait months for the tooth to erupt on its own, or without needing to refer you for an expensive surgical procedure.
Aesthetic Gingival Recontouring
Following the removal of your braces, our orthodontist may recommend recontouring your gum line to improve your smile’s appearance. Aesthetic gingival recontouring reshapes the gum line to improve the aesthetics of your smile by exposing more of the enamel. Our orthodontist will use a laser to remove excess gum tissue around the upper teeth to make them look longer. If the gum line is uneven, aesthetic gingival recontouring can also sculpt the gum line to produce a more symmetrical, balanced smile.

When preparing your Invisalign® clear aligners, we first need to get a comprehensive look at the alignment of your teeth so that we can customize the aligners for you precisely. 3D Digital Indirect Bonding
Indirect bonding is a technique that was first introduced to orthodontics over 20 years ago, and it has become an integral part of many orthodontic practices and orthodontic labs worldwide. Digital Indirect bonding integrates the patient’s digital or physical impression and shows the orthodontist the end-of-treatment prescribed position of the patient’s teeth before treatment begins.
Indirect bonding has been widely praised as it can give the orthodontist the ability to achieve more accurate bracket placement on a static model, while not having to deal with the clinical challenges of direct bonding on a patient. Digital Indirect Bonding also leads to improved patient comfort due to decreased time in which the patient is required to wear uncomfortable cheek retractors!
